Healthy Families America is a preventative home visitation program that targets overburdened families at risk of child maltreatment and other adverse child outcomes. The program is offered on a voluntary basis in the three to five years following birth. HFA uses robust assessment tools to identify those families in most need and then provides intensive services focusing on child development, parent education and access to health care. Rigorous evaluations demonstrate improvement in child-parent interactions and parent care leading to reductions in child maltreatment, higher birth-weight, and children’s school readiness.
