DSM-IV and ICD-10

DSM-IV and ICD-10 are the major classification systems for mental health. DSM refers to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders a manual that includes all currently recognized mental health disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association. IV refers to the Manual being in its fourth edition. ICD refers to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. 10 refers to the classification being in its 10th revision. It is produced by the World Health Organization. The coding systems used in DSM-IV and ICD-10 have been aligned. Both systems attempt to classify symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of disorders.
