Civil Society

Civil Society refers to co-operative action in communities not directed by the state or other economic interests that is supported by freely arrived at shared interests and values. It includes community based organizations, parts of the not-for-profit or charitable sector, some trade unions and professional associations and faith based organizations. Some definitions embrace cultural activity – the theatre, for example.
