Devra Lee Davis is Director of the Center on Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute [1]. Her books on the effects of air pollution and the mistaken focus on the treatment of cancer – and lack of attention on prevention – have been the cause of controversy and acclaim. Professor Davis advises several national and international agencies, including the World Health Organization. Her 2002 study When Smoke Ran Like Water: Tales of environmental deception and the battle against pollution won a US National Book Award bronze medal.
