Edward Melhuish is Professor of Human Development at Birkbeck College, and Visiting Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Education both at the University of London. An internationally recognized expert on child development and childcare he has led major longitudinal studies into effective pre-school education for children between the ages of three and seven years. He is Executive Director of the National Evaluation of Sure Start, the UKs flagship prevention program.
