The US developmental psychologist Richard Lerner is director of the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development at Tufts University, Massachusetts and is best known for his insights into the relations between life span, human development and contextual or ecological change.
He is also the proponent of "positive youth development" as a counter to the remnants of what he has described as the "myth of the troubled adolescent". His work integrates positive youth development with the study of public policies and community-based programs
