Devra Lee Davis is Director of the Center on Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Her books on the effects of air pollution and the mistaken focus on the treatment of cancer – and lack of attention on prevention – have been the cause of controversy and acclaim. Professor Davis advises several national and international agencies, including the World Health Organization. Her 2002 study When Smoke Ran Like Water: Tales of environmental deception and the battle against pollution won a US National Book Award bronze medal.
