Anxiety disorders occur when normal reactions to stressful events result in the sufferer not being able to cope in everyday life. International classifications of diseases include five major types: generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and social phobia or social anxiety disorder. Incidence rates among children aged between five to 17 are likely to be in the 5% to 10% range. Treatment approaches include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, medication, family support and stress management techniques.
