Kathy Sylva

Kathy Sylva is Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Oxford. Her work has questioned several orthodoxies on early years education and care, including the ideology of unbridled ‘free play'. Her studies have demonstrated the impact of education not only on children's knowledge but also on their problem-solving, social skills and disposition to learn. Kathy Sylva has been a Special Advisor to the UK Government, having significant impact on flagship programs such as Sure Start.
