Healthy Passages is a longitudinal study tracking a cohort of fifth-grade children and one of their parents every two years until the children reach the age of 20.
The study collects information on family, peer, school, and community influences on health behaviors, health outcomes, and educational and social outcomes across diverse racial and ethnic populations in the US cities of Birmingham (Alabama), Houston (Texas) and Los Angeles (California). \
A total of 5,148 families were assessed in 2004 and 2006. Wave II data collection, which began in fall 2006 with the cohort in seventh grade, was completed in summer 2008. The study aims to inform effective policies and interventions aimed at improving adolescent health.
